I’m not smart. I’m not brilliant. But I’m clever enough to hang with those who are.

einsteinI work with a lot of very smart people. Some of the software professionals I deal with day to day are some of the brightest in the global industry. This is no exaggeration- arguably some of the technology guys that work for the company I am employed with are at the leading edge of their technology worldwide. There is certainly something to be said for being on a call, hearing someone fix a problem, knowing that the someone in question is likely one of only a handful alive that could resolve the issue. It’s a thing of beauty. I suppose at times others perceive me in this caliber merely by association- but they’d be wrong.

Now, I’m not amoebic. I do have a few redeeming qualities- one of them being my ability to go on at length about my few redeeming qualities. I’d like to think this world offers everyone a chance at being something great, and some of us seize the opportunity- some of us miss it- and still some of us don’t even recognize the opportunity when and if it finally does present itself. For me, however, I don’t believe I’m great- or even really destined for greatness. It is even possible that I have missed my opportunity (however unlikely :) ). But one opportunity has presented itself for which I am taking advantage- the privilege to help others recognize THEIR opportunity and support their success.

So do I appear brilliant? Unlikely. Am I perceived as smart? Perhaps. But this I know- surrounding yourself with brilliance can only improve you- and even to share in helping other’s achieve that brilliance requires a little bit of spark from yourself.

Back to acting brilliant…
