My name is Reilly and I’d like to welcome you to the ‘Mentor in the Making: A Journey In Personal Development‘.
I picture Mentor in the Making like a student in a Socrates class- learning from everyone by asking questions- never assuming it is an authority and always open to learning new things by open acceptance of input from others. As soon as you think you’re an authority in the learning process, you aren’t. According to Wikipedia, a ‘mentor’ is described as “a trusted friend, counselor or teacher, usually a more experienced person. Some professions have “mentoring programs” in which newcomers are paired with more experienced people, who advise them and serve as examples as they advance. ” This site I consider one such mentoring program- both for those of you looking for new insight and those of you willing to share it.
I’m not an absolute authority on any subject life presents and I don’t believe anyone ever is- so my hope with this site is also to serve as a means of provoking discussion, ideas and feedback on the articles, so we can learn together. Having had a career spanning about a dozen jobs and a personality that is quick to make new friends and acquaintances- I really do believe that our experience in life is partially a function of those around us- how we interact with them and how they in turn interact with us.
I will try to keep the content here targeted for that purpose- to serve as an enriching, educational and insightful reference. Having said this, I also admit that I’m a bit conceited to think you’ll be here- be here to read the thoughts of another human being, as significant and insignificant as you. I hope as my reader I never fail to entertain you, teach you something, show you something I’ve learned, share something that makes you smile, or just in some way makes your life just a little bit better for having visited.
